Dung bugs

Dung Bugs

Watercolour, 2020

Beetles represents the power for change. I think that beetles are very underappreciated insects, they prey on garden pests and are such beautiful bugs. As a kid I would love when I saw beetles crawling on my driveway and in my garden boxes. This piece was a small doodle I did in class to apricate beetles more. Like a lot of my drawings sometimes they don't have a very deep or conveying message. It's all in the eyes of the viewer. Therefore then you look at these beetles you may think differently then how I look at them or how others look at them.

An apple a day keeps the doctor away

Coloured Pencil, 2022

This was a coloured pencil assignment I was given in Grade 11. My use of coloured pencil techniques is shown here, such as my use of gradation in the many tones of the apple, are some examples of art theories that my work is attempting to demonstrate and feature. I was able to produce a realistic image with the help of my burnishing and shading skills. When I was combining colours to achieve the appropriate colour matching, I applied the colour theory. In order to make my design stand out and appear 3D and circular like an apple, I paid attention to the shape and perspective. I was also helped by compositional rules since I utilized the apple's leading lines and shape to their full potential. I was able to pick up a range of colour pencil methods thanks to this assignment. I learned how to colour using various strokes and how to use stroke pressure to layer and achieve the desired hue. I discovered the proper way to burnish and when to burnish. I also acquired the patience and ability to make do with what I have. because I had to mix a lot of different colours to obtain the colour I desired.

Where the Cherry Blossom petals fall

Mixed Media, 2021

This piece was a mix of pastels, watercolour, acrylic paints and pencil crayons. This was taken from a game I used to play in 2020-2021 called Genshin Impact. This game inspired me to draw more cultural aspects of the world. Such as a Japanese shrine. This piece challenged me a lot as I'm not used to drawing and painting unique and such beautiful buildings. In the future I hope to challenge myself again like this.

Copy Cat.fish

Watercolour, 2022

This piece was for my Grade 11 art journal submission. It was one of my favourties. The topic was THE CASE for COPYING, talking about how “Good artists borrow, great artists steal.” how skilled artists adapt their influences into their own genuine and unique inventions. However, Appropriation art reverses this meaning. Appropriation art challenges us to acknowledge that supposedly great artists have succeeded in persuading us that their creations are authentic and original because society has already granted them the authority to be such for reasons that have little to do with brilliance and much more to do with the structures of power. This piece depicts two different types of fish with both the same markings and design on their scales. It represents that art can Influences can help make art authentic and unique.

Do I look fragile to you?

Charcoal, 2020 or 2021

This work was created during my online art courses. We were given charcoal they sent us which is something I am very new to. My first go at it was creating a still image which ended up being a fragile piece of pottery. I then went on to try portraits. I looked at both of them side by side one day and saw the contrast between the two and wanted to combine them in a way that was surreal. At the time I didn't know what surreal meant. So looking back at this piece makes me feel very proud and accomplished of myself. This piece shows that people are often fragile like ceramic, glass and pottery. However, we are also beautiful like them too.

Let Them Eat

Pen and Ink, February 2022

This work is somewhat chaotic. This was a surrealism project. Something that makes for the chaos of the artwork is the randomness of the items in the piece. I choose things that usually wouldn't be paired or seen together and to my surprise it turned out in a way that is really interesting to look at. This piece evokes feelings of unsettlement and question. I want my viewer to think about how these things relate to one another and how they each have different meanings and messages. I'm not really sure If I can properly get my message across because everyone sees and interprets things differently from one another but to me the message is loud and clear and that It was surrealism is.

That Fluttery Feeling

You may not get the message at first when looking at this drawing which was then turned into a mural, but this piece reflects the concept of anxiety. Especially the anxiety you get when on school grounds and even in general. The feeling of being enclosed, trapped and stressed over the simplest things. Anxiety is one of the most lonely and isolating experiences you can live through because you are your own worst enemy and you tend to live inside your head in most situations. I wanted to express that this feeling is normal and that you can embrace it. So I drew and painted reflecting just that. The fluttery feeling and butterflies you get in your stomach when you are stressed or nervous. I painted these butterflies flying out of the skeletons stomach and chest to communicate the relief of letting go and embracing the stress and turning it into something positive.

Skateboard Magazine

Magazine paper, 2021

This piece was highly inspired by the street artist Banksy. The stunt he pulled in October 5, 2018. The Banksy Stunt was about a 2006 framed reproduction of the painting Girl With Balloon which was sold for £1,042,000 at Sotheby's auction, setting a record high for the artist. The artwork started to self-destruct shortly after the winning bid thanks to a secret mechanical paper shredder that Banksy had incorporated into the bottom of the frame. For this piece I shred and tore up my favourite skate magazine and tried to recreate a portiat in the style of Banksy. This piece represents the destruction in art. In order to make a statement or convey a message, destruction is often used in art. One work of art is transformed by destruction into something new and greater. Banksy expressed the idea that his art isn't meant to be purchased by using destruction to create a whole new piece. He was making fun of the ridiculousness of his graffiti being considered fine art.

Pop me

POP me

The name of this piece is called “Pop me”. I named it this because as we grow up we need to be freed from what's stopping us in life from gaining creativity. The style and media of my art are abstract, it shows forms of things that are unknown and not realistic. Other than the girl in the middle everything is strange and out of place. These forms represent creativity and the mind. The media I used was what graphite. It’s something that I use rarely for more detailed pieces so this was an accomplishment for me. The literal objects in the piece contain a beautiful ethereal girl in the middle of the page. This is the first thing that grabs your attention. Elements of the image direct your attention to her is how everything is in a spiral that points to her. The path your eye follows as you observe the image is by following the different bubbles. They are the bigger objects in the images so your eye goes from bubble to bubble, object to object. She is surrounded by a bubble looking out at many forms of creative aspects around her. Spirals and bubbles, there are jellyfish, coral, and shooting stars that all symbolize a sense of freedom and hope.
